TRIP 4 A DAY TRIP FROM INVERNESS JANUARY 2019

The 22nd January was a beautiful day, clear blue skies, no wind, but very cold. Just the day for a short trip away from the city. Highland Gourmet Trips is not just about long journeys and hotel stays. We can do short, bespoke trips to take you away from the city out into some of the beautiful countryside less than an hour from home, with the added benefit of wildlife, history and a delightful meal. Today's trip involved driving to an area of the Black Isle known as Balblair. It lies on the north side of the Isle and to get there you drive through some lovely little villages like Avoch, Fortrose and Rosemarkie. These are old fishing villages with a charm all of their own. Rosemarkie is well known for being one of the best places in the world to watch dolphins from the shore, as some of our previous guests (Bruce and Irene) can attest. TRIP 3 NORTH WEST SUTHERLAND NOVEMBER 2018

In beautiful weather for the middle of November, we set off for the far west with Pam and Hugh. The principal purpose of our visit was to check up on the bench and geocache that mark the spot where Pam and Hugh's son Craig tragically drowned over ten years ago. We have been making this pilgrimage with them for a number of years. It does not get any easier, but we have gradually been able to make it something of a break as well as a mark of respect, all without diminishing the reason for the trip in the first place. Our first stop was The Frigate in Ullapool for a spot of light lunch. Bob had a very nice venison burger, while everyone else had something lighter, like soup and sandwiches. Of course, when you are far from home, you never know where the next meal might come from, so stocking up on the burger was a good bet. As I said, the weather was wonderful, but it was cold.
